Friends
(Twitter friends circle from about six months ago.)
This is a blog I wrote back in 2006. I think it fits in nicely with current events.
My friends.
How many times do we read or say that during the day?
A most INACCURATE statement or thought.
A friend can be ... a friend in need or a friend indeed... a best friend... an occasional friend... a fly-by-night friend... but never a ...MY friend.
My...( according to Funk and Wagnalls) is: the possessive case of the pronoun I.
We don't possess our friends. They are free spirits ... vested with the power to come and go at will.
No law states that they are required to be there for us at our beck and call in every situation...nowhere is it written that a friend must put aside all their own hurts and difficulties and come running to offer a shoulder every time we whimper.
These things, however, make them no less a friend.
So we accept what time and comfort they can give us ...cherish the precious moments of sharing and do our very best to simply be a friend in return.
